3 Powerful Shifts That Changed My Business
Working full-time while building a business as a single mom of two felt like a dream I didn’t quite believe I was worthy of living.
It was messy. Beautiful, heartbreaking, chaotic, soul-stretching.
I was juggling Zoom calls, school projects, late-night podcast editing, endless to-do lists, and all the invisible emotional labor that comes with motherhood—and some days, it felt like it was crushing me.
So how did I go from barely holding it together to showing up consistently for my business, my podcast, my blog… and myself?
The truth is, it wasn’t about finding the perfect productivity system or reading the right book. It started with something much deeper:
I had to learn how to trust myself—and that changed everything.
Here’s what that looked like for me.
Step 1: I let myself fail (and kept going anyway)
In the beginning, I dropped the ball. On everything.
I missed work deadlines.
I forgot groceries.
I signed on late for my 9–5 job.
I skipped school events that left my daughter without a parent there.
Some nights, I even crawled into bed without showering because I was that exhausted.
For a while, I thought it meant I was failing at life.
But here’s what I didn’t see yet:
Every time I “failed,” I was actually gathering proof. Proof that I could try again. Proof that I would keep going. Proof that the story I was telling myself—this life is too good for someone like me—was the only thing holding me back.
The first crack of light came when I realized:
If I have the tools, the resources, and the fire in my heart to want this life… why not me?
That question became my turning point.

Step 2: I rewrote the story I was living
I needed daily reminders that I was capable, that I was worthy, that I was building something sacred—even in the middle of the chaos.
So I marched into Dollar Tree, grabbed the world’s cheapest sticky notes and some tape, and covered my life in truth-telling reminders:
- On the TV: “Rest is necessary. Just do it with intention.”
- On the fridge: “You’re fueling your body, not feeding your fear.”
- On my books: “Make this time matter.”
- And my favorite—painted on a canvas that still hangs on my wall: “You did not wake up today to be a weak ass bitch.”*
These words became anchors.
Because every time I saw them, I was reminded that the life I was building wasn’t about perfection—it was about believing in myself enough to keep going.
I even created a list of my favorite self-trust sayings that helped me rewire those old beliefs. You can download it here as a free PDF so you can start rewriting your own story too.
Step 3: I built systems that built me
Once I started to believe I was capable, I needed practical ways to live like it.
Two things changed everything for me:
- Block scheduling: Learning to block time for content, my 9–5 job, my kids, and yes—rest—helped me finally see where my hours were going. No more wondering why I was always behind.
- Lists with intention: I stopped writing endless to-do lists that felt like punishments. Instead, I wrote down what mattered most each day—what I needed and wanted to get done—and let that be enough.
But here’s the part I didn’t expect:
When you only have two hours to create a week’s worth of content, you learn to trust yourself fast.
I couldn’t second-guess every post or let perfection steal my time. If I only had two minutes per idea, then the first idea was the one I went with.
Over time, that tiny decision became the foundation of my self-trust. It showed me I could keep my word to myself—and that built the consistency I had been craving for years.
What self-trust gave me
Here’s the thing no one tells you about building consistency in your business:
It’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about believing you’re worth the effort it takes to try again when it isn’t perfect.
Now, I have a business, a podcast, and a blog that all run consistently—not flawlessly, but beautifully.
Because I finally learned to trust myself enough to keep going.
